Chameleon – Group 19 MSc Management
Chameleon is a platform for tracking and managing consumer transactions. Each consumer is assigned a unique identifier, contained in an RFID chip. Participating stores are equipped with RFID machines that, through radio frequency transmissions, can instantly extract the consumer identity from the chip. At the time of transaction, the consumer identifies himself using his RFID chip, and transaction data are instantly transferred to a database, where data is organized for both consumer and retailer. The service could be in principle sold to any retailer. However the penetration strategy would be to initially target stores that the same customer visits very frequently, as supermarkets, or stores that sell items which often need to be returned, as electronics and household products. For instance, Currys and Argos. Chameleon would give retailers the possibility to reduce the time spent in processing transactions and hence to increase revenues. Also, retailers would lower the costs of receipt issue and printing, increase reliability of customer information during returns and refunds of purchases, improve CSR by decreasing paper consumption. Chameleon would give consumers a simple way to recording and manage their receipts, which would be very useful both for managing household expenses and for returning products with warranties.

Dual-Purpose RFID Security Management System : DigInfo
DigInfo – movie.diginfo.tv Hitachi has developed a dual-purpose RFID security management system. The system can be used as a personnel-tracking system or as a building or area access control system. The system utilizes active RFID tags equipped with infrared receivers. Each tag features a unique ID and via infrared transmission is capable of transmitting positional data. This makes it possible to both identify individuals as well as determine their location. This hands-free access control system eliminates the need to swipe an ID card through a reader. Personnel simply pin the ID tag onto their shirt or jacket, and this enables the system to both track their movements as well as identify personnel entering and leaving company premises. Since the system is capable of tracking movements in open spaces it provides for complete tracking management. Hospitals and up-scale apartment complexes are currently using the system to provide a hands-free security system and apartment complexes are also using the system in common-use spaces.
